Statement rejects attempts to justify violence on religious grounds in the Central African Republic

In the statement, religious leaders and heads of multi-religious organizations extend their deep condolences to and unite in solidarity with all affected by the violence in the Central African Republic (the CAR). The statement strongly denounces the recently reported escalating violence and loss of life in the CAR, and rejects any attempts to justify violence on religious grounds.

Further, the signatories urge all countries as well as the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) to use available resources and means to assist in ending the violence.

The Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers and the co-signatories  are committed to supporting the people of the CAR to secure a just peace, and will work together to convene religious leaders from the CAR and the region to develop a plan of action for peace.
