Advisory Meeting of the Network: Exploring ways to advance the engagement of grassroots actors in peace processes

With the aim of drawing on the expertise of the participants and supporting the upcoming discussions in the National Dialogue Conference, the Advisory Meeting examined peace support through the lens of Libyan and Burmese/Myanma examples. Two parallel sessions on the case study countries enabled in-depth discussions based on the first-hand experience of the panelists working in these countries. During the working sessions, participants shared and explored best and worst practices of supporting traditional leaders and actors in peace processes. Additionally, needs for further support were mapped.

In the second working session of the meeting, best tools and methods in religious and traditional peacemaking were identified in three practical areas of work: mediation, reconciliation and inclusivity in peace processes. The session enhanced peer learning within the Network and mapped need for trainings.

Based on the feedback received during the Advisory Group Meeting in August 2015, the Network has streamlined its work and clarified its focus areas under four clusters. These are peace support, inclusivity, thematic expertise on preventing violent extremism, and methods and tools. In the meeting, the participating organizations shared their needs and commitments regarding each cluster, and collaborative action for 2016 was further developed.
