Bashir Ismail

Regional Coordinator, JISRA

Bashir is the Regional Coordinator of the JISRA project, a project focused on promoting the freedom of religion and belief (FoRB) across seven countries including Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iraq, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda. As the Regional Coordinator, Bashir is responsible for the implementation of planned country/regional level trainings for JISRA partners.

Bashir is a Conflict and Peace building Programme management specialist with more than a decade of progressive expertise in delivery of programs in Kenya, Somalia and in many other African countries including Ethiopia, Burundi, and Sudan. Bashir has worked with both long-term programme coordination and short-term consultancies work with various organizations including Danish Refugee Council, Faith to Action Network, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya/Somalia, American Friends Services Committee. Bashir also worked as Project Consultant with the World Bank funded Kenya youth employment and opportunities project where he coordinated youth empowerment and peace building program for the vulnerable in Kenya and the cross-border areas of Somalia and Ethiopia.  Bashir has Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Conflict management from Kenyatta University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies from the University of Nairobi. Bashir has attended various short courses including monitoring and evaluation of peace building programs from the coalition for peace in Africa (COPA), strategic planning and management course from Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), resource mobilization and capacity building course (Denmark).
