TIPS Project
Stories of Change
From community leaders and peacebuilders in Mozambique

Lobbying Leads Authorities to Channel Revenue from Forest Resources to Local Communities
Advocacy is the strategy we use to persuade the authorities to fullfil their obligations. We are aware that dialogue is the way to restore peace.

Local Communities Compensated by Mining Company After Lobbying Actions
Mutual learning between communities, civil society, the private sector, and the authorities is a win-win for everyone and a contribution to the development process.

Supporting Traditional Leaders to Resolve Community Conflicts in Tete Province
I was previously fighting a lot to resolve conflicts between the community and mining company. The training gave us basic tools to resolve conflicts in our communities.

TIPS Project Catalyzes Change Amidst Conflicts Resulting from Heavy Sand Mining
Our communities are now more active when it comes to their rights, unlike before TIPS when we blindly accepted violations. Lately, we have felt more empowered.

Dialogue and Lobbying Restore Peace Between Communities and Mining Company
Communities now turn to the leadership for conflict resolution, rather than relying solely on resistance. TIPS’ approaches are peacebuilding and social cohesion, dialogue, and respect for human rights.

Permanent Dialogue Integrated Throughout Inhassoro to Prevent Conflicts
Before TIPS and due to lack of dialogue, the complaints of communities who felt they had been wronged culminated in strikes and arbitrary arrests by the government.

Strengthening Mutual Collaboration Amongst Stakeholders in Chemba
Thanks to our knowledge from the TIPS training, we were able to intervene to resolve conflicts.

Facilitating Inclusive Dialogue Between Communities with Disabilities and Local Authorities
The training provided us with tools and strategies for negotiation, dialogue with investors, and conflict management.

Restoring Peace in the Community of Maumbina in Mozambique
We have been able to manage problems independently, and when the issue is bigger, we communicate with the government authorities and reach a consensus.

Supporting Community Leaders to Peacefully Negotiate with the Private Sector and Government Authorities
The voice of the people has become increasingly important. The advocacy and lobbying with multinationals have resulted in the opening of water sources and the construction of classrooms.

Changing the Paradigm of Resettlement in Jangamo
We demand that the primary school be rebuilt with conventional materials. We are also negotiating the construction of a police station, recreational space, and a piped water supply system.
About the TIPS project
Towards Inclusive and Peaceful Societies (TIPS) is supported by a consortium of partners comprised of the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers (NRTP)/Finn Church Aid (FCA), Instituto para a Democracia Multipartidária (IMD), Instituto de Estudos Sociais e Económicos (IESE) and in collaboration with project associates, The Council of Religions in Mozambique (COREM) and Faith Associates. The outcomes of the project are 1) Increased collaboration and mutual learning between communities, CSOs, national and provincial authorities, and the private sector on conflict resolution and natural resource management (NRM), and 2) Enhanced and institutionalized participation of target CSOs in natural resource governance and development processes.
